FAQ

Common questions

What is FlashedRouter?

FlashedRouter is a plug-and-play hardware solution that connects you to your home network from anywhere in the world. It makes the internet think you're still at home—perfect for remote workers, travelers, and digital nomads.

Can I use this with my work laptop?

Yes — It works at the network level, so your device doesn't need to install anything. Many users connect their company laptops to our travel mate router and operate without any detectable changes in behavior or IP address.

What’s the difference between the Full Home Tunnel Solution and the Client Only setup?

The Client Only setup connects you to our private cloud servers, letting you appear online from your home city — no setup, no home device needed. The Full Home Tunnel Solution adds a home device that creates a secure tunnel directly to your own home network, giving you your actual home IP and full access to your devices.

What is a geo lock, and how does FlashedRouter bypass it?

A geo lock (or geo-restriction) is when a website, app or service checks the IP address you're connecting from, works out which country or city it belongs to, and then changes or blocks what you can see. It's why your streaming library shrinks abroad, why your bank suddenly demands extra verification, and why some work portals refuse to load from a foreign IP. FlashedRouter bypasses geo locks by changing the answer to that check at the network level: all traffic from the router exits through your own home connection, or through a residential IP in the city you choose. The service sees a normal home broadband address in the right location and unlocks accordingly — there is no app or browser extension involved, so anything you plug into the router is covered.

Why does FlashedRouter get past geo locks when a normal VPN gets blocked?

Geo-blocking systems don't just look at where an IP claims to be — they also look at what kind of IP it is. Commercial VPNs buy datacenter IP ranges, and those ranges are published, shared by thousands of users at once, and widely blacklisted, which is why you hit 'proxy detected' errors. FlashedRouter gives you a residential IP: either your actual home ISP address via the home tunnel, or a real residential-grade address from our stealth network. That's the same class of IP as any ordinary household, so it doesn't appear on VPN blocklists and doesn't get flagged as a proxy.

Which geo-locked services does this work with?

In practice, anything that gates access by location: streaming catalogues and live sports blackouts, banking and brokerage apps that lock out foreign logins, government and tax portals, region-locked shopping and pricing, and corporate tools that only accept connections from an approved country. Because the router works at the network level, it also covers devices that can't run VPN software at all — smart TVs, games consoles, and locked-down company laptops.

Is there any subscription?

Yes — every setup includes the FlashedRouter service subscription, whichever hardware you choose. The hardware is a one-time cost; the subscription is $9.95 per month or $89.95 per year (which saves you two months) and covers the stealth server network, bandwidth, security updates, monitoring, and ongoing improvements that keep the connection reliable and private. There are no long-term commitments and you can cancel anytime.

Where are the servers located?

If you choose a home tunnel, it will be located at your home address using your own ISP IP address. If you choose stealth cloud servers, we currently host them in the following locations: Ashburn, US; Atlanta, US; Chicago, US; Dallas, US; Frankfurt, Germany; Hong Kong, China; London, UK; Los Angeles, US; Manchester, UK; Miami, US; North Carolina, US; New York, US; Romania; Seattle, US; Vancouver, Canada. Plus, we can always deploy more server as needed. Send us an email if in doubts.

Do I need any technical skills to use it?

Not at all. Just plug one device into your home router and take the second one with you. It connects automatically—no setup, no accounts, no port forwarding. It really is that simple.

What if I don’t have a home or permanent residency?

No problem! You can either use a friend’s home as your tunnel point or choose our dedicated VPN server option for a setup that works from anywhere.

What can I access remotely with FlashedRouter?

Everything. Work tools, smart home devices, your NAS, home printer, security cameras, region-locked streaming services—you name it. In case you opt-in for a client-only solution you will get to access the internet as if you're in your home city.

How is this different from using a VPN?

Unlike traditional VPNs, home tunnel solution creates a direct tunnel to your own home network, not a generic server farm. You get your real home IP, so everything behaves exactly like you’re physically there.

What happens if my home internet goes down?

If you're using your own home server, it needs to stay online for the connection to work. For peace of mind, you can use our optional VPN server setup as a fallback.

Will my employer know I’m not actually at home?

Nope. Your internet traffic is routed through your home, so your location appears unchanged. And with our built-in kill switch, even if the tunnel drops, your real IP is never exposed.

What if my home internet has a dynamic IP address?

No worries! FlashedRouter works even if your home IP changes. Our system automatically keeps the tunnel alive and reconnects without any input from you.

Can my company detect that I’m using a VPN?

Most companies can detect commercial VPNs like NordVPN or ExpressVPN. FlashedRouter avoids this by tunneling through a real home network or a dedicated private server — so your connection blends in naturally.

Will this work if I travel to another country?

Yes! That’s exactly what it’s designed for. Whether you're in another city or on the other side of the world, you’ll appear online as if you never left home.

Can I still use public Wi-Fi while traveling?

Yes! That’s one of the main use cases. Just plug the device in wherever you are—hotel, café, coworking space—and it routes everything securely back home.

Do you ship to Europe?

Yes we do. No Import tax for Europe. Fast local shipping.
